The character of Embankment
Victoria Embankment runs fast and mostly free of junctions for its length, which makes it one of the few genuinely quick roads in central London at almost any hour. The Savoy's private forecourt off Savoy Place is a rare exception to London's usual kerbside rules, reached via its own short access road. Northumberland Avenue and the streets behind the Embankment are calmer still, useful when a river-side pickup point is too exposed to wind or crowds.
- The Savoy's forecourt is reached via its own private access road off Savoy Place.
- Embankment Gardens is a calm alternative meeting point when a hotel entrance is busy.
- Pier traffic and river cruise crowds peak on summer afternoons.
- The Embankment itself is fast-moving for most of the day, unlike the streets just behind it.
