The character of Cheltenham
The Promenade and Montpellier carry restricted loading bays and a steady flow of pedestrian crossings rather than free kerb space, so cars generally wait on a side street off the main run. The one-way sections around the High Street and Royal Well Road catch drivers who have not planned the approach. Evesham Road toward Prestbury Park becomes a single controlled flow during Festival week, and nothing about that week behaves like an ordinary Tuesday.
- The Promenade has loading restrictions through the day; the car waits on an adjoining street.
- Festival week requires a fixed collection point agreed well before race day.
- Montpellier and the squares nearby favour a saloon over a larger vehicle at the kerb.
- GCHQ's Benhall site has its own access arrangements — meeting points are agreed in advance.
