The character of Chester
The centre inside the walls is narrow, part-pedestrianised and awkward for casual waiting, so cars generally hold on Grosvenor Street, City Road or one of the multi-storey car parks rather than at the kerb. Eastgate and Bridge Street fill with shoppers for most of the day. The ring road and the A483/A55 interchange are straightforward once you are clear of the centre, which is where most journeys really begin.
- Cars hold on Grosvenor Street or in a multi-storey rather than at the kerb inside the walls.
- Race days bring road closures near the Roodee from mid-morning onward.
- The Rows and much of the centre are pedestrian-priority through the day.
- Hotel forecourts inside the walls are used only where the hotel directs it.
