The road to Stansted
Most drives from London pick up the M11 at junction 4, and as south-east motorways go, it's among the more predictable. You leave at junction 8 for both the airport and the A120, a good distance before you reach the terminal.
Cars coming from the City and Docklands take the A12 onto the M11, or now and then go anticlockwise round the M25 as far as junction 27. On nearly any weekday morning, the M25 turns out to be the slower choice.
It's the final two miles you really have to know. Around the perimeter, the roads lead to maintenance, cargo and business aviation areas as well as the terminal. Turn wrongly and you're caught in a one-way system that takes ten minutes to get out of.
