The character of Northampton
Northampton's centre is built on a slope down to the River Nene, with the Market Square, Abington Street and the Guildhall forming the older core and a modern ring road wrapped around it. Weekday deliveries and bus movements dominate Abington Street through the day, so cars generally wait on a side street off the square. The Sixfields and Riverside retail areas have their own large car parks and are simpler to work than the centre.
- The car waits off Market Square rather than on it, moving up when you are ready.
- Silverstone race days need a fixed meeting point agreed well before the gates open.
- Franklin's Gardens match days fill the surrounding streets from an hour before kick-off.
- Office park pickups at Pegasus and Brackmills use the building's own forecourt.
