The footstreets and where a car may stop
The footstreet hours run through the middle of the day and into the evening, and the bollards do not negotiate. For the Minster, Duncombe Place and Deangate offer the closest approach outside those hours; during them, St Leonard's Place and Museum Street are the working alternatives with a short walk through Exhibition Square.
For hotels and restaurants in the Shambles and Stonegate area, the practical set-down is on Colliergate, Church Street or the Parliament Street end of Piccadilly. On the river side, Clifford Street, Tower Street and the Skeldergate approach all take a car comfortably at most hours.
York railway station has a forecourt with limited access and heavy taxi use. We normally meet on Station Road or in the Queen Street area just outside, and the chauffeur walks in to meet you rather than leaving you to find a vehicle among a rank of others.
