Event days and the stadium cordon
Rugby internationals, football fixtures and stadium concerts all trigger the same road closures, though the timings differ. Streets typically shut a few hours before kick-off and reopen well after the ground has cleared. Bus routes divert, taxi ranks move, and the city centre becomes a pedestrian space for the duration. An evening kick-off can hold the closures in place until close to midnight.
We plan event travel from the exit backwards. The collection point is agreed first, somewhere with vehicle access and a recognisable landmark, and the arrival is then fitted around it. Sophia Gardens, Cathedral Road and the Museum Avenue area are the usual choices from the north and west.
For hospitality guests with a specific entrance, tell us the gate number. Gates on Westgate Street and Park Street have very different approach implications, and knowing which one you are using determines whether we set down north or south of the river.
