The ring road, and why it takes practice
The A4053 runs a little over two miles around the city centre with nine junctions on it, and in places the distance between a slip road on and the next slip road off is measured in a few hundred metres. Traffic joining and leaving crosses in the same short stretch.
The practical consequence is that missing an exit costs a full lap. Chauffeurs who work Coventry know which junction serves which street and position the car for the exit well before it arrives, which is the only way to drive it calmly.
For anyone being collected in the centre, this is why we ask for a building and a nearby junction number rather than just a postcode. It puts the car on the correct side of the ring first time.
- Exit chosen and positioned for well before the junction
- Building name and ring-road junction preferred to a postcode alone
- Approach planned so no lap is wasted on arrival
