The approach along the A233
The airport sits on Churchill Way off the A233 Main Road, on the ridge between Bromley and Westerham. From the City the route uses the A20 and the A21 before turning onto local roads for the final four miles.
Those last miles are the interesting part. The A233 is a two-lane road through Keston and Leaves Green, with no realistic alternative when it is blocked. A single incident there adds twenty minutes and there is nothing to be done about it except leave earlier.
The M25 offers another way in, leaving at junction 4 for Bromley or junction 6 for Godstone and approaching from the south. It is the better option from Surrey, Sussex and Gatwick, and the worse one from central London.
