Castle arrivals and the Thames Street problem
Castle Hill is the ceremonial approach and is closed to general vehicles. For visitors to the State Apartments, the practical set-down is at the top of Thames Street near the Henry VIII Gate, or on Datchet Road when Thames Street is held. Both need a driver who will not sit blocking a single-lane road while a party gathers itself.
The Changing of the Guard closes the route from the barracks along Sheet Street and the High Street on its published days. It is short but absolute. If your appointment falls inside that window we shift the collection by twenty minutes rather than attempt to drive through it.
For a service or private event at St George's Chapel, access arrangements are set by the household and communicated to those attending. We work from whatever instruction you have been given, and confirm the meeting point back to you in writing so there is no ambiguity on the morning.
