The character of Stroud
The town centre climbs sharply from the station and canal up toward the High Street, and several roads are one-way or restricted by gradient as much as by signage. Parking is scarce in the centre itself, so cars generally wait in one of the surrounding car parks rather than at the kerb. The villages in the surrounding valleys, Nailsworth, Painswick and beyond, add narrow lanes and limited turning space to most journeys.
- Central parking is scarce; cars generally wait in one of the surrounding car parks.
- Several town-centre streets are steep and one-way — timing allows for the detour.
- Village pickups in the surrounding valleys often involve narrow lanes with limited turning space.
- The Golden Valley rail line runs infrequently, so station collections are timed precisely.
