The character of Ayr
The town centre sits back from the seafront, with the Esplanade itself wide and easy for a car to wait directly on the promenade side. The High Street and the older streets around it are narrower, and race days bring heavy but predictable congestion concentrated around the course rather than the whole town. Alloway, just south, keeps a quieter, more rural character around Burns Cottage.
