01Section
The character of Winchester
The historic core sits inside the old city walls, with the High Street pedestrianised for most of the day and the cathedral close reached only on foot from several directions. The Broadway and Southgate Street carry the through traffic instead, and short-stay parking near the Guildhall fills quickly on market days. A car collecting from the cathedral or the college waits on a nearby street rather than at the gate itself.
- The High Street is pedestrianised for most of the day — the car waits on the Broadway or Southgate Street.
- Cathedral Close is foot access only; we agree a fixed meeting point on the approach.
- Short-stay bays near the Guildhall fill early on market days.
- College pickups use the porters' gate area by prior arrangement.
