The character of Andover
Andover's ring road, built after post-war expansion, keeps most through traffic off the older High Street, so the town centre itself is calm outside school-run hours. The Chantry Centre precinct is pedestrianised, with short-stay parking on its perimeter. Approach roads from the surrounding garrison villages are narrow country lanes rather than dual carriageway, which changes the timing for a rural collection more than the mileage suggests.
- The Chantry Centre is pedestrianised — cars wait on the surrounding perimeter road.
- Garrison and MOD site pickups require ID confirmation in advance for gate access.
- The ring road keeps the town centre itself relatively free of through traffic.
- Rural addresses around the garrison villages are reached by single-track lanes, which we allow extra time for.
