The character of Marlborough
The High Street itself is unusually wide and can absorb a car waiting briefly without disrupting the flow, though through-traffic on market days is heavier than the town's size suggests. The lanes leading off it toward the church and the college narrow quickly. Savernake Forest to the south-east is reached along quieter, tree-lined roads that carry their own seasonal visitor traffic.
- The High Street is wide enough for a brief kerbside wait outside market hours.
- Marlborough College exeat weekends bring a concentrated flow of family collections.
- Marlborough has no railway station — transfers to Pewsey or Great Bedwyn are routine.
- Savernake Forest access roads are quiet but narrow in places; timing allows for this.
