The character of Ipswich
The Cornhill and the surrounding lanes are pedestrianised through the day, so cars work from the surrounding one-way system rather than the square itself. The Waterfront is more open, with marina-side apartment blocks and their own parking arrangements that vary from building to building. Norwich Road and the approach from the A14 can back up at commuter times, and the Orwell Bridge, which carries the A14 south of the town, is closed to high-sided vehicles in strong winds, occasionally forcing a long diversion.
- The Cornhill and Buttermarket are pedestrianised — the car holds on the surrounding one-way loop.
- Waterfront blocks each use their own drop-off arrangement, confirmed the day before.
- We check the Orwell Bridge for wind closures before any journey south on the A14.
- Station pickups use the short-stay bay directly outside the entrance.
