The character of Newmarket
The high street is compact and easy outside race days, with the gallops and open heath giving the town an unusually open feel for its size. Several roads cross active training gallops and close briefly each morning while horses are exercised, which a chauffeur needs to know rather than discover on the day. Racecourse traffic on a major meeting, particularly the July Festival, brings genuine congestion on the roads approaching both the Rowley Mile and July Course sites.
- Morning gallops close some edge-of-town roads briefly — we plan around the exercise schedule.
- Racecourse collections on major meeting days use a fixed point away from the main crowds.
- Tattersalls sales bring extra vehicle and pedestrian traffic on the high street.
- Training yard visits are arranged by appointment, confirmed with the yard beforehand.
