The character of Bury St Edmunds
The Georgian grid around Angel Hill and the Abbey Gardens is regular and easy to navigate, though several streets close to the cathedral restrict vehicle access during services and events. Angel Hill itself is a good waiting point, close to both the abbey gate and the main shopping streets. Traffic on the A14 bypass moves well outside peak hours, and most of the town centre stays comfortably clear of it.
- Angel Hill is the reliable waiting point close to the Abbey Gardens and the cathedral.
- Streets near the cathedral restrict access during services and civic events.
- The A14 bypass is used ahead of the town centre for through journeys.
- Station pickups use the short-stay bay outside the entrance.
