The character of Chichester
The four Roman streets converging on the market cross are partly pedestrianised, and the cathedral precinct is foot access only. The A27 Chichester bypass carries the bulk of through traffic, including a well-known bottleneck at the Fishbourne roundabout to the west. Car parks ring the historic centre rather than sitting inside it, so a chauffeur collecting from the cathedral or theatre area walks the final stretch on foot to confirm the meeting point.
- The cathedral precinct and market cross area are foot access only.
- Car parks ring the historic centre; the walk to a theatre or gallery pickup is short but on foot.
- On Goodwood event days, approach roads close early and we follow the event's published access plan.
- Chichester Harbour addresses are reached by narrow lanes with limited passing space.
