The character of Bishop's Stortford
South Street drops steeply from the church toward the river, narrow enough in places that two cars pass with care, and parking along it is limited and closely managed. The station area, rebuilt in recent years, has a proper drop-off arrangement that suits airport-connected journeys well. Streets around the castle mound and the old grammar school are quieter and easier for a scheduled collection than the commercial heart of the town.
- South Street is narrow and steep — the car holds nearby and walks up if needed.
- The station drop-off area is used for fast rail connections to Liverpool Street.
- We watch Stansted's own approach roads rather than the town for airport timing.
- Streets around the castle mound offer easier scheduled collection than South Street.
