Grey Street, Grainger Town and the shape of the centre
Grey Street curves down from the Monument towards Dean Street and is one of the finest streets in England to arrive on. It is also busy, bus-heavy and awkward to stop on for long. Collections are usually made from Mosley Street, Market Street or the top of Grey Street by the Monument.
Grainger Town covers the blocks around Grainger Street and Clayton Street, much of it pedestrianised. The hotels there generally have no forecourt, so a chauffeur will hold on Westgate Road or Nelson Street and come to the entrance on a message.
The Central Motorway, the A167(M), runs immediately east of the centre and is the fastest way between the north and south sides of the city. Its junctions are close together and unforgiving, which is a good argument for a driver who has used them before.
