The character of Peterborough
The city centre is compact and largely pedestrianised around Cathedral Square and the Cornhill, so a car cannot simply pull up outside the precinct on a weekday. Bridge Street and Priestgate carry the office traffic, while the ring road built in the 1970s makes most cross-city journeys quicker than they look on a map. Queensgate's multi-storey and the station forecourt are the two reliable waiting points; the cathedral gates themselves stay pedestrian only.
- Queensgate's multi-storey and the station forecourt are the reliable city-centre waiting points.
- Cathedral Square and the Cornhill are pedestrian priority — the car holds on Bridge Street instead.
- On Peterborough United match days the stadium approach roads close from early afternoon.
- Office pickups along Lynch Wood use the building's own forecourt or car park.
