The character of Paignton
The seafront and the roads near the pier fill with family visitor traffic through the summer, and parking near the beach itself is scarce on fine days. The town centre around Victoria Street is a conventional grid with reasonable short-stay parking. Paignton Zoo, set back from the seafront, has its own visitor car park that we use rather than the surrounding residential streets.
- The seafront and pier area are busiest through the school holidays and fine summer weekends.
- Paignton Zoo has its own visitor car park, used in preference to nearby residential streets.
- Paignton railway station is also the terminus for the Dartmouth Steam Railway.
- Beach-side parking is scarce on fine days; the car waits a short distance back from the front.
