The character of Newton Abbot
The town centre around Queen Street and the market has moderate short-stay parking, busier on the twice-weekly market days than the rest of the week. Newton Abbot racecourse, just outside the centre, has its own access road and car parks used on race days rather than the surrounding streets. The roads out toward Dartmoor narrow quickly and change character within a couple of miles.
- The racecourse has its own access road and car parks, used in preference to nearby streets.
- Market days bring heavier traffic to Queen Street and the town centre twice a week.
- Roads onto Dartmoor narrow quickly beyond the town's edge — extra time is built in.
- Newton Abbot station sits on the main line, with connections toward both Torquay and Plymouth.
