The character of Oxford Circus
Oxford Street and Regent Street are both pedestrianised in effect during peak shopping hours, with buses given priority over general traffic even outside those times. The scramble crossing at the Circus itself clears the junction to pedestrians on a set cycle, which any car passing through has to respect. We hold on a side street such as Argyll Street or Great Portland Street rather than attempt the Circus directly.
- No car can wait at the Circus itself — we agree a side-street meeting point in advance.
- Oxford Street favours buses and taxis during shopping hours; general cars are discouraged.
- Argyll Street is the usual hold for Palladium theatre traffic.
- The pedestrian scramble crossing clears the junction on a set cycle several times an hour.
