The character of Islington
Upper Street is busy from lunchtime through to late evening, with restaurant trade spilling onto the pavement and limited legal stopping directly outside the more popular addresses. The Georgian squares just behind it — Cloudesley, Milner, Barnsbury — are quieter and better suited to a longer wait. Highbury Corner, at the northern end, is a genuinely complex junction that needs planning rather than improvising.
- Upper Street's restaurant frontages have limited legal stopping — the car holds on a side street.
- The Georgian squares behind Upper Street offer calmer, more reliable waiting points.
- Sadler's Wells and the Almeida both generate predictable curtain-down traffic worth planning around.
- Highbury Corner is a complex junction best avoided as a meeting point.
