The character of Canonbury
Canonbury Square and the streets around it are quiet, largely residential and mostly resident-permit parking, with very little through traffic compared with neighbouring Islington. St Paul's Road, on the eastern edge, carries more traffic as it heads toward Dalston. Canonbury Road itself is a reasonable route through but not a place to wait, given the steady flow of local traffic using it as a link between Upper Street and Essex Road.
- Most streets around Canonbury Square are resident-permit parking, so a specific meeting point is agreed in advance.
- The New River Walk is pedestrian only and not usable as a route or waiting point.
- St Paul's Road and Canonbury Road carry more traffic than the square itself.
- Essex Road offers a quieter alternative route toward the City than Upper Street.
