The character of Dudley
The town centre is largely pedestrianised around the market place, so waiting cars use the surrounding streets rather than the centre itself. The climb up to the castle is steep and narrow in places, with limited turning room near the zoo entrance. Merry Hill's roads are wider and built for retail traffic, with far easier stopping than the older streets closer to the centre.
- The town centre is pedestrianised around the market place — cars wait on a surrounding street.
- Roads near the castle and zoo are narrow, with limited turning room close to the entrance.
- Merry Hill's car parks are the practical wait point for a retail-area collection.
- There is no mainline station in Dudley itself; the nearest are at Tipton and Sandwell & Dudley.
