The character of Wolverhampton
The ring road controls almost every approach into the centre, and the one-way sections around Lichfield Street and Waterloo Road catch drivers who do not already know which exit to take. Queen Square and the streets around St Peter's Church carry short-stay bays rather than free kerb space, so cars tend to wait on a nearby side street. Wednesfield and the routes out toward the M54 are more open, with wider carriageways and fewer restrictions.
- The ring road has no stopping bays — cars wait on a side street off Lichfield Street.
- Match days close the roads around Molineux for an hour either side of kick-off.
- Station forecourt pickups work for a short hold rather than a long wait.
- Birmingham's Clean Air Zone sits well outside Wolverhampton and only applies once a journey enters the city.
