The character of Balham
Balham High Road is wide but busy, with bus lanes narrowing the space available to a waiting car. Du Cane Court, the large Art Deco block on the High Road, has its own forecourt but strict rules on who may wait there, so pickups are arranged by prior arrangement with the building rather than assumed. Bedford Hill is calmer and better suited to a doorstep wait outside the restaurants.
- Du Cane Court pickups are arranged by prior notice with the building rather than a spontaneous wait.
- Bedford Hill allows a short doorstep wait outside the restaurants after dark.
- Balham High Road bus lanes restrict where a car can hold during the day.
- Trinity Road is the usual alternative when the High Road is at a standstill.
