The character of Aldershot
Aldershot's town centre, rebuilt heavily in recent decades around the Wellesley shopping development, is straightforward to work, with car parks close to the main streets. The Garrison itself covers a large area to the north and east, with restricted roads and manned gates that a chauffeur cannot simply drive through without prior clearance. The A325 carries most through traffic toward Farnborough, busiest at the shift-change and duty-change times around the barracks.
- The Garrison's controlled areas need prior clearance; the car cannot pass a manned gate without it.
- Garrison ceremony days bring restricted access and, on the largest events, road closures around the parade ground.
- The Wellesley development has car parks close to the main streets, straightforward for a town-centre pickup.
- The A331 Blackwater Valley route is the fastest link to the M3, clear outside the two commuter peaks.
