The character of Oldham
The town centre has been substantially rebuilt around the tram interchange and Gallery Oldham, with vehicle access generally routed to the edges rather than the pedestrianised core. Saddleworth is a different world: narrow, steep, stone-built streets that climb quickly out of Uppermill, where careful driving matters more than speed. The road out of town via the A669 links the two.
- The rebuilt centre routes vehicle access to the edges of the tram interchange.
- Saddleworth's stone-built streets around Uppermill are narrow and steep.
- Winter weather on the moorland lanes above Delph warrants extra margin.
- Wedding venues around Saddleworth often need a set collection time confirmed with the venue.
