The character of Margate
The Old Town around the harbour and the Turner Contemporary is largely pedestrian, with narrow lanes better suited to walking than driving. Marine Terrace and the seafront road are wider and give straightforward access to the main sands. Dreamland's car park handles much of the visitor parking for that end of the seafront, separate from the Old Town's tighter streets.
- The Old Town around the harbour is largely pedestrian; the car waits on Marine Terrace nearby.
- Dreamland has its own car park separate from the Old Town's narrower streets.
- Summer weekends bring heavy seafront traffic across the whole Thanet coast.
- There is no motorway serving Thanet directly — road journeys off the peninsula need real margin.
