The character of Dover
The town centre sits in a valley between the castle heights and the Western Heights, with the port occupying the seafront below. Port approach roads are wide and built for freight volume, entirely separate from the older residential streets further up the hill. Market Square and the pedestrianised shopping streets are calm by contrast, with short-stay parking nearby rather than at the kerb itself.

- Dover Castle has its own visitor car park at the top of the hill.
- Sailing delays affect port timing more than road traffic does — we monitor both.
