The character of Lewes
The historic centre is built on a slope, with narrow lanes known locally as twittens running between the main streets, far too tight for a car. Cliffe High Street and School Hill carry the main flow, one-way in sections, and short-stay parking is limited near the castle itself. County Hall and the station sit at the flatter, western edge of town, easier for a straightforward pickup.
- The narrow twittens between the main streets are pedestrian only.
- Cliffe High Street and School Hill run one-way in sections; the car works with the flow rather than against it.
- Glyndebourne bookings hold on-site through the performance and dinner interval.
- County Hall pickups use the designated visitor bays at the front of the building.
