The character of Dorking
The town centre is compact and hilly in places, with West Street's antique shops and the High Street both narrow enough that kerbside waiting is limited during the day. Dorking's three stations, Main, Deepdene and West, sit close together but serve different lines, and a car meeting the wrong one loses real time. The lanes toward Box Hill and Ranmore are narrow, winding and often shared with walkers and cyclists on weekends.
- Dorking's three stations, Main, Deepdene and West, serve different lines; confirm which one you need.
- West Street and the High Street have limited kerbside space during the day; the car holds nearby.
- Fine weekends bring heavy visitor and cyclist traffic to Box Hill; we allow extra time on those days.
- Lanes toward Ranmore and Leith Hill are narrow; a pickup off the main road takes longer than the distance suggests.
