The character of Datchet
Datchet's centre is a triangular green ringed by period cottages, with two level crossings on the branch line adding a genuine, if minor, source of delay. The lanes toward the Thames and Home Park narrow to single-track in places, and the southern approach toward Old Windsor floods after heavy rain, which we watch for rather than assume clear. On-street parking is limited, so cars usually wait on the green itself.
- Cars usually wait on the green itself; a resident driveway is used where one is available.
- Two level crossings on the branch line can add a short wait either side of the village.
- The southern lane toward Old Windsor floods after heavy rain — we route around it when needed.
- Early Heathrow departures are timed against the airport perimeter roads, not just the motorway.
