The character of Caerphilly
The town centre sits directly beneath the castle, with the moat and the leaning tower forming the backdrop to most of the shopping streets. Traffic through the centre is channelled around the castle rather than past it, and the road over Caerphilly Mountain to Cardiff is narrow and twisting enough to need genuine care in poor weather. Cars wait in the town centre car parks rather than beside the castle walls.
- Cars wait in the town centre car parks rather than beside the castle walls itself.
- The mountain road to Cardiff is avoided in poor weather in favour of the A470.
- Castle event days bring short road closures around the moat we plan around.
