The character of Brecon
The town centre sits compactly around the cathedral and the old market square, with narrow streets that a saloon handles comfortably. The Honddu and Usk rivers cross close to the centre, and the road network beyond town climbs quickly onto open moorland where weather can change the driving conditions fast. Cars generally wait in the Cattle Market car park or near the cathedral rather than on the square itself.
- Brecon has no railway station — Abergavenny and Merthyr Tydfil are the nearest.
- Cars wait in the Cattle Market car park or near the cathedral, not the square.
- Roads out of town climb quickly onto moorland — we watch weather closely.
- Pen y Fan trailhead pickups are booked as a fixed point with an agreed time.
