The character of Archway
The gyratory at Archway carries near-constant traffic from the A1 in both directions, plus buses feeding in from Holloway and Highgate Hill, and there is very little practical space to stop within it. Junction Road and the streets toward Tufnell Park are calmer and better suited to waiting. Highgate Hill climbs steeply north from the junction, giving a clear physical boundary between Archway's traffic and the quieter village above.
- The gyratory itself has almost no space to wait — the car holds on Junction Road instead.
- Whittington Hospital collections are timed and discreet, agreed in advance where possible.
- Highgate Hill adds a slow climb northbound at peak times, worth allowing for.
- Archway Tower is a clear, unambiguous landmark for meeting points.
