The character of Highgate
The village around Pond Square and South Grove is narrow and largely residential, with limited kerb space and several one-way restrictions that catch out drivers unfamiliar with the layout. Highgate Hill and Archway Road drop away steeply to the south, giving fast views over the City on a clear day but a genuinely steep descent for a car. Waterlow Park's gates and the cemetery entrance are the two spots where casual waiting is most awkward.
- Several streets around the village are one-way — the meeting point is agreed in advance.
- Kerb space near Pond Square and South Grove is limited, so the car often holds slightly further out.
- Highgate Cemetery visitors are met on the nearby road rather than directly at the gates.
- Archway Road southbound is the key morning pinch point for any journey into town.
