The character of Amersham
Old Amersham's high street is lined with timber-framed and Georgian buildings, narrow enough in places that two-way traffic slows to a crawl when a delivery van is loading. Amersham-on-the-Hill, around the station, is a more conventional twentieth-century suburb with wider roads and easier parking. The short hill connecting the two adds a genuine few minutes to any cross-town journey.
- Station pickups on the hill are quick; Old Amersham high street is narrower and slower to reach.
- The connecting hill adds a genuine few minutes to any journey between the two parts of town.
- Old Amersham high street loading restrictions apply through the working day.
- Both the Underground and Chiltern Railways platforms are covered from the same forecourt.
