The character of Scarborough
The Esplanade above South Bay has period buildings with limited direct kerb access, so cars hold on the side roads and come down to the hotel entrance on request. The Foreshore Road along the harbour is busy with pedestrians in summer and narrows at points, while the climb up to the castle and Marine Drive is one-way in sections. North Bay is generally calmer and easier to work than the tighter streets around the harbour.
- Cars hold on side roads above the Esplanade and come down to the hotel entrance on request.
- Marine Drive and the castle approach are one-way in sections and occasionally closed for events.
- Foreshore Road narrows in summer with pedestrian traffic along the harbour.
- A64 collections from York-bound arrivals are timed against Saturday holiday traffic in season.
