The character of Matlock
The town centre around Crown Square and the A6 is narrow, with the Derwent squeezed between the road and the hillside, and kerbside space at a premium through the day. Matlock Bath, a mile or so south, has its own distinct character built around the Heights of Abraham cable cars and a strip of amusements that draws heavy weekend visitor traffic. Steep side streets require a driver who knows which ones a saloon can manage confidently.
- Crown Square and the town centre have limited kerbside space; cars wait a short walk away.
- Matlock Bath's weekend visitor traffic peaks from late morning and eases by early evening.
- Steep side streets need a driver who knows which ones a saloon can manage safely.
- Winter ice affects the gorge's side roads more than the main A6 route.
