The character of Camberwell
Camberwell Green and Camberwell Church Street sit at the centre of a fairly dense, low-rise area with narrow Georgian terraces behind the main roads. Denmark Hill, King’s College Hospital’s main road, is busy with ambulance and hospital traffic around the clock, so we avoid it as a waiting point even though it borders the area. Camberwell New Road, part of the A202, is the more reliable route through.
- Camberwell has no rail or tube station; a car removes the need for a bus connection.
- Denmark Hill is avoided as a waiting point due to constant hospital traffic.
- Camberwell New Road is the preferred through-route rather than Church Street at peak times.
- Terraced side streets suit a standard doorstep wait away from the main roads.
