The character of Buckhurst Hill
Queens Road is the commercial spine, narrow with limited stopping space and busiest in the early evening when its restaurants fill. Cars generally hold on one of the residential streets just off it. The land drops toward the Roding valley on one side and rises toward the forest on the other, which means a short journey across town can involve a genuine change in gradient and road width.
- Queens Road pickups hold on a side street once evening restaurant traffic builds.
- The station forecourt is used for Central line connections.
- Forest-edge roads on the eastern side carry limited lighting after dark.
- Roding valley streets can be tight for larger vehicles — a saloon is the easier fit.
