The character of Bolton
The town centre around Victoria Square and the market has narrow approach streets and limited waiting space, so cars generally hold nearby rather than directly outside. The wider borough is easier going, with better road widths around Horwich and Westhoughton. The M61 spur into the centre is quick outside peak hours but backs up sharply on a stadium event evening.
- Cars hold near Victoria Square rather than directly outside the market.
- Stadium event evenings close nearby roads for an hour either side of kick-off.
- Horwich and Westhoughton addresses have easier kerbside access than the centre.
- The M61 to Manchester is quick outside peak hours and slow after four.
