The character of Basildon
The town centre around Eastgate is built for pedestrians once you are inside it, with car parks and drop-off points arranged around the perimeter rather than through the middle. The roundabout network linking the centre to the surrounding estates and business parks is extensive and, once learned, faster than it first appears. Pitsea and Laindon retain more of an older Essex town feel, with tighter streets and less predictable parking.
- Eastgate pickups use the perimeter car parks rather than a kerbside stop in the pedestrian centre.
- Pitsea and Laindon collections are confirmed by exact street, since parking there is less predictable.
- The car uses the roundabout network in preference to the A127 for short cross-town journeys.
- Business park pickups use the site's own visitor parking where one exists.
