The character of Armagh
The centre climbs between the two cathedral hills on narrow Georgian streets, tight for a car and largely without kerbside space near either cathedral. The Mall, a long Georgian green at the heart of the city, has clearer edges for waiting. Market day and events at the Palace Demesne bring short, predictable surges in footfall that we plan around rather than react to.
- Neither cathedral has direct kerbside access — the car holds on the nearest practical street.
- The Mall offers clearer waiting space than the streets around the two hills.
- GAA match days close roads near the county ground — cars hold well clear.
- Rail journeys route through Portadown, about ten miles away, since Armagh has no station.
