The character of Sydenham
Sydenham Road, the high street, carries most of the local traffic and has limited kerbside space during the day. Kirkdale and the streets around Sydenham Wells Park are calmer and better suited to waiting. The western edge toward Crystal Palace shares the same steep gradients, which slows collections slightly in poor weather. Lower Sydenham’s streets, further from the high street, are generally the calmest place to wait for a longer collection.
- Sydenham Road has limited kerbside space; Kirkdale is the usual alternative for waiting.
- Sydenham Wells Park roads suit a calm doorstep wait.
- The western edge toward Crystal Palace shares its steep gradients.
- A short walk between the two stations is sometimes quicker than a road link at peak times.
